Since 2010 Hungary offers “Simplified citizenship” for individuals whose ancestors were born in the territory of Hungary. In addition to the “Simplified citizenship” regulations, the amendment of Law II of 2007 at the end of 2012 introduced the concept of “Residency bonds”, where an investor with the purchase of a specially issued government bond with a face value of EUR 250,000 and with a maturity of 5 years is entitled to obtain residency in Hungary.
